21. (Haloween) Ljubljana marathon

Its time for marathon number 12. This year i took off from competitive racing, and this was my first and last marathon of this year. One reason was the fact that i had other things in life to do, other was a slight achilles tendinitis injury. Gladly joined my team and ran in the costume. And it was a proper Halloween costume, as this year marathon coincided with Halloween.

As the rest of team went to run only a half-marathon, i prolonged my run for another 21 km. I ran with them quite slowly first 6-7km and then accelerated a bit. At the end it resulted in my slowest marathon yet (3:40.40), but time was not a priority. I had a blast of a time (and suffered just a bit during the last 5-6 km due to lack of kilometers run in the last months and warm costume). But it was fun nevertheless. Actually, only not fun moment came afterwards when i had to remove all the mask. It just didn’t go off 😉

Treviso in Italy

Treviso is a city in Veneto, northern Italy. It is also known for being the original production area of Prosecco wine, and being one of several towns thought to have been the origin of the popular Italian dessert tiramisù. Not only that, it is know for its radish.

It is famous for its massive walls and ramparts built in the venetian times. Due to its canals and waterways and greenery, some even called it as a garden of Venice. The many waterways were exploited with several waterwheels which mainly powered mills for milling grain produced locally. The waterways were all navigable and “barconi” would arrive from Venice at the Port of Treviso.

Today it has some great museums and it is famous for different expositions. Still, it remains lesser know “brother” of Venice.

Autumn colours in Zgornjesavska valley

October 20th, 2016 Comments off

Beautiful autumn day and nothing to do? As I live in a beautiful mountain valley, i decided to cycle towards Zelenci and lake Jasna in Kranjska gora. Mojstrana (actually already Jesenice) is connected with Kranjska gora with great cycling route that extends another 60km in Italy! But my goal today is not so far away, just to see some autumn colours in the valley.

Zelenci Springs is a nature reserve near the town of Kranjska Gora, in the far northwestern corner of Slovenia. It is the source of the Sava Dolinka River, a tributary of the Danube. At Zelenci Springs, water from underground Nadiža Creek (originating in the Planica Valley) re-emerges through the porous bottom of a 2 m deep lake, whose waters are noted for their deep, brilliant green. The spring and its surrounding area are named after this colour (zelena barva = green colour).

Second stop was lake Jasna, which is the name of two, artificial and connected lakes in the vicinity of Kranjska gora. History of this lake is long, as the first swimming facilities here were opened in 1911 and enlarged in 1929. In the last years, lake was divided into two parts and cleaned. One similarity remains with history – water is still very cold, even during the summer months. Some heroes still decided to jump and swim in it 🙂
